8-hydroxy-hexahydrocannabinol (8-OH-HHC) is a derivative of HHC (hexahydrocannabinol), which is formed by the oxidation of HHC via the liver enzyme cytochrome P450. This process adds a hydroxyl group (-OH) to the eighth carbon atom of the HHC molecule. Commercially available 8-OH-HHC products are produced by chemical synthesis from HHC.
Based on experience with other HHC derivatives, the effects of 8-OH-HHC are thought to be similar to those of THC and HHC, although probably with a lesser intensity. 8-OH-HHC has psychoactive properties, and can affect perception, induce feelings of euphoria, relaxation and increase appetite.
8-OH-HHC is a relatively new cannabinoid on the market and more research is needed to fully understand its long-term effects.
